This was the case with Halcyon Fairs’ December outing at the Octagon Ballroom in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens.

Organiser Duncan Pembroke said: “The second day of our December fair was blighted by snow but many of our dealers reported excellent sales. We were well supported last year including 10 newcomers and some dealers travelled from as far as Penzance and sometimes Scotland to stand with us.

“Bookings for our fair on January 27-28 are looking good for our maximum 100-plus tables.”

Talking about a welcome rise in younger buyers at his fairs, Pembroke enthusiastically emphasised one important marketing aspect.

“I have a continuous social media presence as I tend to post something every few days which is reposted by the Pavilion Gardens Facebook page which has 21,000 followers. This in turn gets picked up by Buxton Tourism and other local event information publishers including local radio.”
