The ‘Horae’ were copied into prints in the late 18th and early 19th century that proved the inspiration for many Roman micromosaics.
This panel, measuring an impressive 3ft 7in x 2ft 10in (1.07m x 81cm) in its gilt frame, is also signed and dated to the marble panel lower right L. Schibba Roma, 1884.
Estimated at €6000-8000, at Bolli & Romiti (25% buyer’s premium inc VAT) in Rome on June 11, it hammered for €27,000 (£22,800).
