The best of around 30 ceramics factories in Turn- Teplitz, Bohemia (now Tronvany, Czech Republic), at the time the Amphora was drawing on the creative talents of artistic director Eduard Stellmacher and his brother-in-law and classmate at the Arts and Crafts Academy in Dresden, Paul Dachsel. This 2ft (60cm) high lamp is a rare but known model from c.1900.

Another example of the form had been offered at auction in 2019 when it failed to sell against a guide of $1500-2000.

Remarkably, this one offered for sale at Alderfer Auction (23% buyer’s premium) in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, on April 24 was guided at up to $500 but raced away to sell at $13,000 (£10,400).
