Can you come and have lunch?’”

Pictured here is a portman upholstery three-seat calico settee by Colefax and Fowler, with a cream-coloured fuchsia quilted loose cover and three matching throw cushions.

The Sultan/Aurora by The Squires, one of Neil Young’s first bands, pressed in Canada in 1963, estimate £3000-3500 at Hansons.

One man’s lifetime collection of 1500 vinyl records on offer at Hansons in Etwall, Derbyshire, on July 3 includes one of the rarest singles in the world.

The Sultan/Aurora by The Squires, one of Neil Young’s first bands, was pressed in Canada in 1963. Young was 17 when it was recorded. It is thought only 300 copies of the 45rpm 7in single were ever made. Some 61 years later only around 8-10 are known to exist.

However, one is estimated at £3000-3500 as part of the collection amassed by Pete Anderson now up for auction. In 2009 he flew all the way to Winnipeg in Canada to buy the elusive single from a private collector who had owned his copy since its original release.

“After some back and forward negotiation he agreed to sell his copy to me for $2750 (£2170)”, says Anderson. “And yes, I did track down a UK owner, but sadly he didn’t want to sell, which was completely understandable, I suppose. So, off I travelled to Winnipeg.”

The collection includes 120 Neil Young records overall.
