Bicycle lamp enthusiast Peter Card has published a new book.

Lucas Cycle Lighting 1878-1962 has been the culmination of 12 years’ work.

Card, who featured in a Collector Interview with ATG (No 2401), collects pre-Great War bicycle lamps.

His book covers the evolution of bicycle lighting from the vélocipède era, through the late Victorian emergence of acetylene gas and exotic designs, through to the emergence of electricity in the 1930s and beyond.

The 400-page quarto-sized book, with 750 illustrations (many in colour) and 140,000 words, is offered in a limited edition of 400 numbered copies.

Priced at £95 plus postage, it is available from Card at
