From a local property, a Victorian mahogany Scottish longcase led the day. With a tapered and fluted trunk and circular dial within a decorative hood, the eight-day bell strike movement clock was in wholly untouched condition and went to a North Country dealer against four telephone lines at £3500.
Among more than 40 barometers, a rosewood stick barometer by L.Casella & Co, London with ivory dial went to a Berkshire dealer at £2200 and a Victorian walnut-cased banjo barometer by London maker Joseph Somalvico brought £360.
Best of the furniture was a 19th century mahogany pull-out dining table on turned legs and with an extra leaf which brought a mid-estimate £1200.
Notable among the three-figure pieces was a 19th century ebonised inlaid and gilt metal-mounted side cabinet for which a private buyer tendered £450.
Decorated in the popular Claremont pattern, a Moorcroft footed bowl on a blue and green ground led the ceramics. A good size at 101/2in (27cm) diameter, the bowl had been extensively restored yet still went on the bottom estimate £1000.
