Titled The Halt, the 3ft 6in x 6ft (1.07 x 1.83m) oil on canvas, which is signed and dated 1852, features two Highlanders returning after a day
stalking with their ponies carrying the carcasses of two stags. The three-day, 964-lot, Scottish series, held from August 26-28, featured jewellery, silver, Wemyss pottery and modern and vintage sporting guns as well as Scottish paintings and sculpture and realised a premium-inclusive total just over £3.5m.
