A decade ago, when the market was closer to its peak, large pieces in both the orange and the blue colourways could command over £5000.
Prices are now lower. Last year several pieces of Orange Lucerne, offered as part of the collection of James Fairfax at Duke’s of Dorchester in February, took decent sums (including £2000 for a flared bottle form vase) while a sleeve vase took £2700 at Fieldings in April.
On January 20, Maxwells of Wilmslow, Cheshire offered this 12in (30cm) two-handled lotus vase decorated in the Blue Lucerne pattern on behalf of a local family who had owned it for many years.
In near perfect condition, it sold to an online bidder at £3400 (estimate £1500-2000).
