The viewing opened yesterday with one of the busiest ever press calls staged at Sotheby’s with journalists, photographers and camera crews circulating around the New Bond Street gallery spaces.

The viewing itself stretches out over six rooms and runs for nine days. It will be open for 24 hours on Friday November 4 with bacon sandwiches served at 2am and a breakfast bar open from 6am.

A ‘children’s day’ will also be held on November 6 with Sotheby’s hosting a day of activities and games designed for children with a balloon man, ‘fuzzy felt area’ and activity packs.

Among the speakers participating in a ‘festival of talks’ on November 5-6 is Bowie’s advisor and curator from 1993 to 2000 Kate Chertavian and writer William Boyd who, along with Bowie orchestrated the ‘Nat Tate’ art world hoax in 1998. Spaces at the events are limited with Sotheby’s saying booking in advance is essential.
