Drummond Read, which focuses on more traditional auction houses and dealerships, and Art/Work Recruitment, which has a more contemporary focus are to combine their teams in the former’s St James’ Square office.
“Joining together we have much wider scope for candidates, so our databases will grow,” says Julia Henderson of Drummond Read.
But, she added, they were keen to keep the office small. The three existing staff of Drummond Read will be joined by Nina Langford, the one-man team of Art/Work, making a total office of four people.
Langford and Henderson have worked together informally for nearly two years. They began work together after an accidental meeting in a coffee shop where they had both arrived to meet the same client.

“We got along really well and started helping each other with referrals and introductions. It seemed sensible to combine formally, which will give us a boost in terms of activity,” Henderson said. “We’re really looking forward to it.
The two have a combined database of 10,000 candidates from their previous businesses.
Langford founded Art/Works in 2010. Henderson set up Drummond Read in 2000.
Their long-term plans include growing their international reach and getting active in the temporary recruitment market.
“We complement each other well,” Henderson said. “By joining our businesses together we’re closing the circle in arts recruitment.”
