The preview day was well-attended and, while not every dealer had done business by the time ATG toured the stands on June 28, reports of early sales are now coming through.

The fair takes place inside a marquee in The Royal Hospital, Chelsea and runs until July 5.

Speaking to ATG, one of the founders and co-owners of Masterpiece Simon Phillips of Ronald Phillips  described the fair as a “great outlet” which this year was “a little bit more international and modern, but with a great mixture”.

When asked about how the preview was going, he said: “It’s been fine. We’ve done business last night and we’ve done business today, so we’re not unhappy.”

Among the items on his stand which had already drawn interest was a mirror by Thomas Chippendale from c.1780 which was discovered in America and was traced back to Harewood House. The dealers also sold a pair of Regency globes by J & W Cary.

Other dealers who reported sales include Koopman Rare Art (silver), Lyndsey Ingram (modern prints and works on paper), Ariadne Galleries (antiquities) and Mazzoleni Art (20th century art).
