The picture by the circle of marine artist Thomas Elliott (active 1790-1800) came to the Gloucestershire saleroom from a country house near Tetbury. It was hammered down for £15,500 during the auction which took place from January 30-31.
Several of the top lots came from the same collection, including a view of a racing schooner off Ryde by Arthur Willington Fowles, which sold to an international buyer for £3200.

Leading the sale, however, was a pair of early Victorian globes which came from a different collection. The terrestrial and celestial 12in (30.5cm) globes were made by Newton & Son of Chancery Lane. Each bears a brass meridian and engraved polar calottes, while the stands, 2ft 10in (86.5cm) high, have engraved calendrical rings and were hammered down for £18,000.
Also among the top-selling lots were a garniture of three c.1800 Pinxton porcelain D-shaped bough pots painted en camaïeu in dark green with buildings in a landscape, one titled ‘Butterley Hall’.
The sale totalled over £300,000 with more than 50 lots each realising in excess of four figures.
