Owner and auctioneer Nicholas Mellors is to pursue a career as a consultant and freelance auctioneer.
He is joining Morphets of Harrogate as an auctioneer, valuer and appraiser and will take his first sale on April 27.
He said he is also open to other opportunities within the trade on a consultant basis and added: “Running an auctioneering business has become very challenging and fraught with more risk and regulation for a small business.”
Mellors, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the trade, bought trade warehouse Newark Antiques 18 years ago. He then launched Nicholas Mellors Auctioneers from the same site in 2014. The last sale was at the end of March.
Newark Antiques, which houses around 80 dealers, is open to the public and will continue to operate as it has for the past 30-plus years.
