This 2in (5cm) long Dutch silver comfit, or snuff box, is priced at £1500 from Michael Baggott Antiques.

Most likely intended to serve as a love token, the heart-shaped piece was made by Jan de Hoop, Amsterdam, 1736, and is cast and chased with three maidens gathering flowers in a field.

In the 250th anniversary year of the birth of Anglo-Irish writer Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849), The Cotswold Auction Company is selling her personal collection of books on February 6 in Cheltenham.

The group, which includes many signed and inscribed books by Edgeworth and her family, has been consigned from a family member of her stepmother and confidant Frances Beaufort (1769-1865).

Estimated at £800-1000, this book titled Karamania or a brief description of the South Coast of Asia Minor was written in 1817 by Frances’ brother, Admiral Francis Beaufort.

A sale of silver, coins and medals on February 5 at Fellows of Birmingham will include this 1920s silver salver by Omar Ramsden.

The 10in (25cm) wide plate, hallmarked London 1925, is engraved with the presentation inscription I was Wrought for Major Stanley Heathfield Blakey M.C. By Command Of His Brother Officers October 1925. It surrounds a centrally engraved badge for The Queen’s 22nd London Regiment.

Estimate £1000-1500.

House & Son of Bournemouth will be offering several items of Danish-designed Rio rosewood furniture in an auction on February 6. The group was purchased by the vendor’s late husband from a store in Copenhagen in the late 1950s and early ‘60s.

This 3ft 5in (1.07m) squared cocktail cabinet by Danish furniture maker Mogens Kold is estimated at £500-1000.

Other pieces include a Bernhard Petersen & Son sideboard, a 12-seater table by John Mortensen for Heltborg Mobler, a set of eight dining chairs by Niels Møller for JL Møller and a Poul Hundevad tea trolley.

All pieces will be sold with CITES Article 10 licences.
