A still-life by Scottish Colourist George Leslie Hunter (1877-1931), unseen on the market for nearly half a century, is a stand-out entry in Hansons’ Summer Fine Art sale on June 30 in Etwall, Derbyshire.

Tulips and Fruit, a vibrant 21½ x 18in (55 x 45cm) oil on canvas, will go under the hammer estimated at £60,000-80,000.

The painting was reportedly discovered after a chance conversation between a taxi driver and the saleroom’s founder, Charles Hanson. It has remained in the same family since it was acquired from a gallery in Glasgow in the 1960s.
