Etc Fairs, which runs monthly book and separate ephemera fairs in London, has advised that renovations at its venue mean a tight squeeze this month.

The events held regularly at the Royal National Hotel in Bloomsbury have had to condense into a smaller space, including the ephemera fair running on Sunday, October 27.

However, organiser Kim Jeffery says they will be back to normal in two of the hotel’s suites for the fair on Sunday, November 24.

Busy dealer

Dealer Matthew Nutt spends a great deal of his time driving round the country standing at fairs which include these 23 annual books and ephemera events.

He also attends IACF Ardingly and IACF Newark, and B2B Events’Malvern Flea & Collectors Fair, and he has space in two antique centres – one at the Leominster Antiques Centre and the other in Cirencester – as well as two bookshops in Hay-on-Wye.

Talking about his background, Nutt said: “I grew up in the antiques trade and was often found down the Birmingham Rag Market on a Monday when I should have been at primary school. My father traded as Bournville Antiques and my antiques education started early.”

Based in Malvern, Nutt has a special focus on maps, antiquarian books and “unusual, uncommon or unique ephemera”. He added: “The ephemera collectors I sell to have diverse wants but folding maps of London are always popular.”

As a child Nutt was an avid reader of comics including Marvel.
