Among the works on show will be this monumental painting by Joan Miró, L’oiseau Migrateur from 1968, which hung in de Givenchy’s bedroom during the later years of his life.

The 6ft 4in x 4ft 3in (1.94 x 1.3m) oil on canvas, which was purchased by Bunny Mellon shortly after its creation and then acquired by Philippe Venet, has never before been on the market. The estimate is €2.5m-3.5m.

There are examples of classic antique furniture that are testimony to de Givenchy’s love of 18th and early 19th century decorative arts.

Among them is this 4ft 2in (1.27m) wide Empire period, porphyry top, gilt bronze mounted centre table by Martin-Guillaume Biennais which was almost certainly based on a drawing by Percier and Fontaine and is estimated at €400,000-600,000.
