Plate from a set of the four volumes that make up William G Johnstone & Alexander Croall’s Nature-Printed British Sea-Weeds of 1859-60 – £1200 at John Nicholson's.
Re-cased in the original cloth bindings and presenting some 221 nature-printed plates in all, one of which is reproduced above, it sold online at £800.
A couple of other examples have made more at auction; most recently at a Dominic Winter sale of May 2020, where bidding reached £1200.
