Two of the Riccardi Press limited editions for the Medici Society offered at Thomson Roddick – Canterbury Tales at £550 and Le Morte Darthur… for £650.
All were in limp vellum bindings with ties, and they mostly featured tipped-in coloured illustrations by William Russell Flint.
Reproduced here are the title-page of a 1913, three volume Riccardi/Medici edition of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales which sold at £550, and a coloured plate from the most expensive of the group, albeit at a slightly under-estimate £650.
It is taken from a 1910-11, four-volume edition of Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur.
