At the Battersea Decorative fair Drennan & Sturrock sold this George III pine chest of drawers later painted with willow pattern which was priced at £4400.
Available from Drennan & Sturrock for £4400, it was a classic offering from the popular fair which offers classic antiques and collectables alongside quirkier and more modern decorative items.
Following a promising start (see ATG No 2643), the spring edition of the event rounded off with plenty of strong sales despite train strikes and the attraction of warm weather.
Organiser Jane Juran said: “A combination of the first warm weather of the year plus train strikes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evidently did not deter quality buyers keen to attend and make acquisitions, though it may
well have affected day trip buyers from out of town.
“The free entry after 4pm continued to attract evening visitors, in particular a younger clientele (other than Friday night by when the weather was hot and drinks outside were no doubt preferable!).”
New exhibitors included Richard Price, Stephane Olivier, Beton Brut, Mary Cooke Antiques and Lesley Ferguson, co-founder of Lorfords, standing for the first time in her own name.
Price, a clock specialist, said he was pleased with the event, selling many of his bigger clocks to new clients at prices from £2500-10,000.
Other stand-out sales included several works from Florence Evans Fine Art, which went for prices of up to £18,000, including a portrait by Hedwig Pillitz.

An 18th century Venetian gilded gesso mirror with original glass ticketed at £10,000 was sold by Justin Evershed-Martin to a private buyer, and a pair of recently discovered Regency sleigh back armchairs by Morel & Hughes went from Chalet White to a private customer for a five-figure sum.

Sans Pretention parted with a pair of French 1950s lacquered commodes ticketed at £28,000, while Joshua Lumley found new homes for a number of verdure tapestries offered for prices between £4000-9000.
The final edition of the fair for this year runs from October 1-6.
