Baldwin's

Baldwin’s are a specialist coins and medals auction house and dealership based in London.

The company A H Baldwin & Sons Ltd dates back to 1872 but, after a series of changes of ownership, they are now part of the Stanley Gibbons Group.

As the Standard Catalogue of British Coins points out, this tiny denomination, the George VI silver threepence dated 1945 , essentially marks the end of the silver coinage and the beginning of modern coins made of copper-nickel and brass.

An auction record for a British coin was set in New York when a 1703 Vigo five guineas piece sold at $900,000 (£703,000) – $1.08m (£845,000) including premium. The sale was conducted by Baldwin’s of St James’s as part of The New York Premier Sale in Manhattan on January 13.
