Abbott and Holder

Descending from a partnership between Robert Abbott and Eric Holder, who first dealt together in 1936, Abbott and Holder are a London based art dealership and conservator. The firm stocks works at a variety of price points.

While the gallery was originally in the house of Robert Abbott, it moved to a four floor building on Museum Street in 1987, where it remains presently. In 2001, Abbott and Holder became a Limited Company, run by managing director Philip Athill. Tom Edwards joined the company in 2003 and is now also a Director.

Though largely unknown on the market today, British artist Gerald Marks (1921-2018), the subject of a show at Abbott and Holder, had a colourful life. For a long time that colour was red.

Abbott & Holder promote Duncan Grant for the 21st century

Abbott & Holder recently sold a bronze head of Duncan Grant (1885-1975) by Stephen Tomlin (1901-37) to the Charleston Trust, owners of the East Sussex home where Grant once lived and worked with other members of the Bloomsbury Group.
