Spink
Spink are an auction house specialising in stamps, coins, medals and banknotes. The firm was founded in London in 1666 as a goldsmiths and pawnbrokers but, as well their premises in Bloomsbury, London, they now also hold sales in Switzerland, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
As part of their international expansion, Spink acquired companies including Robson Lowe, Shreves Philatelic Galleries and Smythe in the US as well as Phila China and Oeno China auctions in Hong Kong.
Rare Rorke’s Drift casualty honour comes up at auction
13 June 2022In May 2019 Spink (20% buyer’s premium) medal specialist Marcus Budgen was entrusted to catalogue the medals of Gunner A Howard, ‘N’ Battery, 5th Brigade, Royal Artillery, one of just four members of the RA present at the defence of Rorke’s Drift in the Zulu War.

UK auction record for a copper coin at Spink
10 February 2020A UK auction record for a copper coin was set on September 24 when a rare Edward VIII 1937 pattern penny sold at Spink for £111,000 (plus 20% buyer’s premium). The coin was made as a trial, ahead of the king’s abdication in December 1936, and was never released for circulation.
