Christie's was founded in 1766 by James Christie in London. It holds about 450 auctions a year across with around 80 categories including fine art, jewellery, photography and wine.
Christie's has an international presence through its 12 salerooms including London, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Dubai, Mumbai and Hong Kong. They also have 53 offices in 32 countries.

Christie’s British art auction survives Brexit and sets £22m record for Henry Moore sculpture
01 July 2016A series of blue-chip consignments from different sectors of the market helped Christie’s ‘Defining British Art’ evening sale in London last night to a £99.5m total including premium. The auction offered paintings by major names including Joshua Reynolds, John Constable, Stanley Spencer, Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon but it was a Henry Moore sculpture that led proceedings, selling at £22m.

Johnny Depp’s Basquiat paintings fetch £7.6m at Christie’s

Louvre buys duc de Berry’s tomb mourners at Paris auction
24 June 2016Two finely carved marble figures of mourners from the tomb of Jean de France, the duc de Berry (1340-1416) brother of King Charles V of France were secured by the Louvre for €4.4m (£3.67m) at Christie’s Paris last week.
