Mallams

Mallams has been trading since 1788 and now has salerooms in Oxford, Cheltenham and Abingdon as well as a valuation office in Burford. 

In addition to conducting general sales, house sales and a biannual ‘House and Garden’ sale, they also hold specialist auctions of 20th century art, books and manuscripts, ceramics and glass, clocks and barometers, collectables, Eastern and Oriental art, furniture, paintings, silver, jewellery and watches.

Jades in demand in Dorset and Cheltenham

The outstanding jade offered in the regions in the October-December period was this pale celadon teapot and cover that came for sale at Duke’s in Dorchester on December 8 from a Dutch private collection where it had been since the 1980s.

‘Surprizing’ Crusoe result in Oxford

Top lot in a sale held by Mallams (25% buyer’s premium) of Oxford was a 1719-20, first edition set of 'The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe…', 'The Farther Adventures…' and 'The Serious Reflections…' in later but very smart bindings of red morocco gilt by Francis Bedford of London.
